In recent years, communities on the North Shore have seen an increase of improper disposal of sharps in the garbage, streets, parks and beaches. This is not only putting sanitation workers at risk but, also the general public that are trying to enjoy our beautiful parks and beaches. To try and combat this growing epidemic, we applied for and received a $1500 grant from the Department of Public Health/ Office of Local and Regional Health in order to promote safe sharps disposal in our communities. This grant comes following a public health emergency declared by Governor Patrick on opioid addiction. Therefore, we have developed a postcard that educates people on how and where to properly dispose of sharps on the North Shore. This postcard is distributed at most pharmacies on the North Shore. |
